Here are some important facts about squares and square roots:

A square of a number is the result of multiplying that number by itself.
The square root of a number is one of the two equal factors of that number.
The square root of a product is the product of the square roots.
When estimating a square root, fing the whole number whose square is closest to the radicand (the number under the square root).
When adding or subtracting expressions with square roots, combine only the like terms (the terms with the same radicand).
